1. CRANE CITY
Crane City (working title) is a comic project ; a dramatic romantic comedy set in Brittany, France. The plot revolves around three twenty-somethings, each dealing with independence and self-doubt in their own ways. When all three of them meet and get caught up in a love triangle, they end up having no choice but to navigate their issues in order to salvage their newfound relationships.
ASA
Asa loves birds and rock music. In order to pursue her dream of becoming an ornithologist, she enrolled at a scientific university a few years back. But as graduation inches closer, Asa comes to realize becoming a field scientist might not be so viable after all: she’s growing more and more terrified of being alone!Asa hides her insecurities behind her sharp tongue and her fiery temper, and is more often seen frowning than anything else. She’s got this big, secret crush on her coworker Lorenzo, whose presence soothes her.
ERWAN
A self-proclaimed reformed delinquent who mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the previous school year. When she hears all kinds of rumors as to why, Asa takes matters into her own hands and decides to investigate the best way she knows how: by hooking up with him. But all she finds out is that he suffers from some sort of condition… Could that be the real reason he was held back a year? Unfortunately, Erwan is dead set on keeping any of the details to his grave.Erwan tends to act out as a way to deal with his emotions, which can be pretty hard to read as a result. He enjoys teasing Asa, with whom he initiates a tumultuous friendship, and develops complicated feelings for Lorenzo from the get-go.
LORENZO
A one-winged chef! Lorenzo is the sole cook at the bistro he works at. With his good looks, gentle demeanor, and remarkable diligence, he’s totally the perfect guy… Or so Asa says, since she works as a waitress alongside him on saturdays. Lorenzo isn’t very outgoing, in the sense that he won’t make the effort to connect with others, but if spoken to, he’s very at ease and people generally find him to be delightful.He likes Asa, but they’re more like work acquaintances than anything, and he doesn’t intend to get to know her at first, either… However, her friend, Erwan, definitely catches his eye.

AGE: 20 (21 at end of story)
ZODIAC SIGN: Aries
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Dudes. More specifically, gay dudes. It's weird how this keeps happening.
CULTURAL IDENTITY: Hawaiian-born, of Filipino and Japanese descent. Grew up in France and holds dual citizenship (French-American).
It's a lot, and she finds it bothersome, so she usually just presents herself as French-American.Asa (朝) means morning in Japanese. Pag-asa means hope in Tagalog. I named her Camacho because it comes from camachuelo which is spanish for bullfinch.
FAVORITE MUSIC GENRE: Classic rock, heavy metal, industrial rock / Whatever your dad listens to in the car.
FAVORITE FOODS: Either very spicy or very sweet.
Spicy foods include tteokbokki, poulet DG, japanese curry, tex-mex, couscous with lots of harissa...
Sweets include donuts, churros, candy, brownies, and any and all french pastries.
FAVORITE BIRD:
She does love all most of them, but likes corvidae the best because of their social behavior and unparalleled intelligence.She highly values vultures as well. They're the only known obligate scavengers outside of the ocean, which makes them an important part of the ecosystem. And also they look very metal.Speaking of looks, she also likes shoebill storks and dracula parrots for that reason.
RELIGION / FAITH: As both a scientist and a metalhead, Asa is a proud atheist.
ERWAN
LE ROUX
AGE: 21
ZODIAC SIGN: Scorpio
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: His denial about being bisexual since he was 15 is coming to its end.
CULTURAL IDENTITY: Born and raised in France. His father is French (Breton) and his late mother was of norwegian descent. He doesn't know anything about Norway, but he can speak some Breton.
Erwan is a very common breton first name. His grandma used to call him Wanig (as per breton nicknaming conventions ; pronounced Wah-nick), and it stuck. I named him Le Roux as a joke, because he initially had red hair.
FAVORITE MUSIC GENRE: Punk rock, 80's-90's hip-hop (French and American), psychedelic rock.
FAVORITE FOODS: Likes savory food. The greasier the better: pizza, döner kebab, french tacos, nem rán, samossa, anything deep fried...
Also a big fan of bitter flavors like grapefruit and dark chocolate. Coffee and beer are both bad for him but he drinks a ton anyway because he likes the taste.Not a vegetarian, instead he stays away from seafood as much as possible (unless ethically sourced).
FAVORITE SEA CREATURES: Too many to count. The ocean is huge, man.He acknowledges phytoplankton as the most important marine lifeform (it contains cyanobacteriota, which makes it responsible for 50% of the oxygen on the planet). But he doesn't find that answer to be any fun.So here are some guys he really loves or thinks are fascinating, and that you can (for the most part) put on a face on. In no particular order:Seals ; sea otters ; moray eels ; gulper eels ; anglerfish ; hammerhead sharks ; giant manta rays ; ocean sunfish ; piranhas ; sea turtles ; corals ; harp sponges ; siphonophores.RELIGION / FAITH: Agnostic. Not sure why so many people are definite atheists in the name of science, when there's still so much out there that's beyond human understanding. At peace with the fact that he will never know either way.
